Clover Tale
The series focuses on Asta, a young orphan who is left to be raised in an orphanage alongside his fellow orphan, Yuno. While everyone is born with the ability to utilize mana in the form of magical power, Asta, with no magic instead focuses on physical strength. Conversely, Yuno was born as a prodigy with immense magical power and the talent to control wind magic.
With a world revolving around magic, many of the characters in the story seem to draw from a variety of sources: classic myths, literary fairy tales, and all other kinds of characters from folklore, whether it's horrifying monsters or storybook princesses. For some characters, this becomes apparent in their backstories, but it comes out in the spells they cast for others.
This backstory appears to have been inspired by Rapunzel's fairy tale, where the heroine is imprisoned in a tower by a witch. Eventually, she escapes and marries a prince. Unlike the fairy tale, where the witch steals Rapunzel from her birth mother and father, the Witch Queen appears to actually be Vanessa's mother and the mother of other witches who live in the forest.
Grey is patterned after the fairy tale heroine, Cinderella, who also suffers at the hands of her stepmother and stepsisters until she becomes a princess. Even Grey's name might have been a reference to the story: in some languages, like in Chinese, Cinderella is called "Grey Girl," about her being covered in ashes. And just like Cinderella, Grey is also only known by a nickname.
Nacht's demons resemble a donkey, a dog, a cat, and a rooster. This refers to the Grimm fairy tale of "The Bremen Town Musicians," in which these four animals escape their cruel masters and try to join a band. They end up scaring a band of robbers out of their hut.
Noelle is looked down on by her older siblings thanks to her poor control over her magic and is essentially exiled from House of Silva over it, similar to how the Ugly Duckling was bullied and cast off. Noelle is the fair-haired youngest daughter of the House of Silva and a member of the Black Bulls. Audiences might think she'd be a storybook princess, given the references to fairy tales in the series, but she actually seems to invoke The Ugly Duckling.
Symbolically, she draws a lot from the fairy tale heroine Sleeping Beauty, also known as Briar Rose, who is cursed to sleep for one hundred years. Charlotte's connection to roses and thorns references the princess' alternate name, as well as the forest of thorns that surround her castle. Added to that, Charlotte was cursed by a witch to lose control of her powers when she turns 18, which only love can break.
Once upon a time there lived in Crumpawn a man named Mc Gloin. All his cattle had died except one cow. One day the people of the house were boiling a pot of the dead animal's meat when an old woman came in and sat by the fire. She took a ring from her pocket and began looking through it into the pot. When she went there was nothing in the pot but dirt. One day when the man was out he found a clover on the grass and he picked it up. Every day, when churning they put this clover on the churn and they always got the full of the churn of butter when using it. One day they thought that they were taking the butter from the neighbours so they (burt) burnt the clover and never got any butter again. 041b061a72
